This target course is unlike typical
Florida courses, Deer Creek's rolling hills and steep dramatic
bunkers provide settings like those of top northern courses. The
signature hole is #18, a 423-yard, par 4, which looks over the water
to the $5 million sprawling, Key West-style clubhouse. All of the
greens, tees, and fairways have been overseeded to give the grass a
vibrant green, striping effect. Many film and golf celebrities play
this course, which was redesigned by Arthur Hills in
1993.
With new greens and landscaping, Deer
Creek is even more of a pleasure than before. Greens have some
hidden breaks (I could have sworn it would break to the right) and
fairways and roughs absent of hidden danger (I only lost
one ball to the trees). We had a wonderful
scramble on Sunday October 24. 2004 with the West Palm and Fort
Lauderdale chapters of American Singles Golf Association.Dinner at
the restaurant was reasonably
priced and the presentation was wonderful...(think catered affairs,
they have wonderful
facilities).
You must give this course a try even though it tends
to be a little pricey for our
standards.
