I stayed
close to home this week, the Jag was back in the shop
(okay...everybody laugh!) I have been golfing in the Hollywood area
for a few years now and thought I should at least let people know
some of the options to the Diplomat (damned expensive you know).
Golf 3 courses for the price of one tee time
there!
Begin the weekend with a great 9 hole warm up at the
Eco Golf Club.
This executive nine hole course is surrounded by a water
treatment plant with channels running on both sides of the course.
(get there before the heat of the day!) The surrounding water
results in three of the nine holes requiring a tee shot over water
to the green. The fairways are fairly flat and sand bunkers are
spread throughout the course. The scenic layout also features
numerous palm trees lining the holes. With all the hazards, accuracy
and ball placement ( I tried, okay!)is crucial to achieving par (par
10 for Vee). The Westlake Wildlife Preserve is also located next to
the course, which adds a wonderful gallery of birds to your
game!

One of my favorite courses! Orangebrook! Played the East course with George on Thursday (yes,
George beat me again, but he keeps the score, I don't, so you figure
it out) and the West Course on Saturday with my favorite Italian
Golfer! I refuse to keep score with him, he played pro in Europe and
tolerates my duffing ways....
The club
has two regulation eighteen holes courses are built on
predominantly flat terrain, and are well maintained. There were a
lot of trees down from the hurricane and root systems 2 stories high
that added some interesting hazards! Numerous sand bunkers have been
incorporated into the course design, and the greens vary in size.
The East Course features more water hazards in play than the West
Course. Therefore, the West Course's fairways are more open and
easier to hit. The West Course's signature hole is #18, a 580-yard,
par 5.

Mark in the Pro Shop and Dave the Ranger are super
guys. Craig (the starter) whom I dealt with on my first trip was
more than helpful! Zeke (our new super golfer) played here with me
Sunday and was very impressed with the variety and difficulty of the
water hazards.
Locals say that this course is the oldest course in
the area. The course is affiliated with the Hollywood Beach Hotel.
It was built on fairly flat terrain, and the fairways are wide open
but tree lined. There are some elevated tees, and water hazards come
into play on eight holes. The large, sloping, fast greens are well
protected by sand bunkers. Mark Mahannah redesigned the course in
1955.
