March 6.2005: What a beautiful
weekend! Went to Lakeland to see the Yankees play the Detroit
Tigers (Yankees lost) and stopped off in Haines City to play one of
the best manicured, inexpensive courses I have played in Florida
(note inexpensive, I expect expensive ones to be pristine!)
Sun Air Golf
Club is "a piece" back in orange grove country off of 544 and worth
the trip.
This course has plenty of trees
lining the fairways. Fairways are so well manicured you would want
to carpet your home with them. Greens are tight and fast with
few breaks (yes ...you must aim straight). Some holes are tight and
some are open. Nine holes are fairly flat and the other nine is
rolling. There are fourteen ponds that come into play on seven holes
and over the water, twice on one hole...yup...lost a couple balls on
that one! There are plenty of bunkers on the fairways and greens.
Members can walk the course after 3 PM.
Haines City and the surrounding
area requires a "Long Golf Weekend" with many great courses to play
and we plan on taking one soon.
